List of Top Upcoming Smartphones in India for August 2020


The Indian smartphone market is known to be extremely competitive, with numerous offerings at each price point. With short refresh cycles and multiple launches each month, it can get confusing whether you should wait or choose a phone that is currently available. Knowing what’s on the horizon can help with this decision. 

The current situation has led to a delay in multiple smartphone launches in India. The situation is getting better with time as more and more people are getting used to the new normal. India has embraced itself to fight against the Coronavirus and things are expected to run smoothly soon as before. 

Here is the list of smartphones that are expected to arrive in India this August. 



    Honor 9A and Honor 9C





    Honor will re-enter the budget segment this month with Honor 9A and Honor 9C smartphones. Honor 9A will be available on Amazon and will feature a massive 5,000mAh battery, 6.3-inch screen, 64GB onboard storage, and a fingerprint scanner. For optics, on the Honor 9A, you get a 13MP primary snapper, a 5MP wide-angle lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. The Honor 9S will be made available on Flipkart and the details of the phone are yet to be announced. They are unlikely to support Google services.


    Oppo Reno 4 Pro



    It has a 6.5-inch 90Hz AMOLED screen. Powering the device is Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC unlike the 765G on the Chinese variant. This is paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. 

    As for the optics, there is a quad-camera setup on the back with a 48MP Sony IMX586 f/1.7 main, 8MP ultra-wide, two 2MP sensors. Selfie is a 32MP f/2.4 Sony IMX616. It has features like OIS, 960fps slow-mo, AI color portrait, monochrome video modes.

    The Oppo Reno 4 Pro has a 4,000mAh battery with 65W Super VOOC 2.0 and Oppo says the device can be charged fully in 36mins. The device runs Color OS 7.2 based on Android 10 out-of-the-box.

    Mi A4


    Mi A4 could be coming soon, probably in August or September. Mi CC10 series is in the works, and the upcoming CC10 device will probably be remodeled as Mi A4 in India. The device is said to be launching as early as next month in China, as it will succeed in the Xiaomi Mi CC9 series. Mi CC9 in India was unveiled as a remodeled Mi A3, and the upcoming Mi A4 is expected to be remodeled Mi CC10 for India.

    Mi A4 concept renders leaked early this year as well and some key details were leaked about the upcoming Xiaomi Android One smartphone. The recent leak about the upcoming Mi A4 sheds more light on the camera setup and hardware.

    Poco C3


    Poco C3 will come as a rebranded Redmi 9C under 10,000 in India. Poco will launch the recently unveiled Redmi 9C as a new rebranded Poco C3 in India. After being certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and TÜV Rheinland, Bluetooth SIG certification confirms the device will be called Poco C3. Xiaomi recently unveiled Redmi 9C at the Global Ecosystem Product Event. The device was first launched in Malaysia.

    As spotted on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and TÜV Rheinland, the upcoming Poco C3 is seen with model number M2006C3MI, the same model number as Redmi 9C. It was just unveiled globally by Xiaomi in Europe at the Global Ecosystem Product Event.

    Google Pixel 4A


    Pixel 4A July launch has been delayed, but the company has confirmed that the Pixel 4A launch will happen on August 3. The device will come at a cheaper price tag than the current entry-premium iPhone SE 2020. While amid the pandemic Google Pixel 4A is yet to have a launch date, the pricing leaks continue to pour in, and the latest is said to undercut iPhone SE 2020 by a good margin. The previous leaks hinted at a similar price for Google Pixel 4A as iPhone SE 2020. 

    Pixel 4A will not come with 5G support, and the device will be powered by Snapdragon 730 SoC. Pixel 4A is said to feature a 12MP primary, 5.81-inch OLED Full HD+ display, and an 8MP selfie camera. Pixel 4A will support a sizable 3,080mAh battery with 18W fast charging support.

    Realme V5


    Realme is one of the fastest-growing smartphone makers in the world. The company will add yet another series to its portfolio. The first phone under the new series will be Realme V5 which will be launched on August 3. It is expected to bring the much-awaited design refresh that was teased a few months ago.

    For starters, it will have a big Realme logo plastered across the phone’s derrière in an unmissable way. The Realme V5 will have a grey-colored glass back with an AG matte finish. It is said to come with a 6.5-inch display with a hole-punch notch on the right side. Considering the phone has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, we expect it to implement an LCD panel. No other specifications were shared except that it will also be 5G capable.

    Redmi 9A


    Redmi 9A India launch may happen by the end of August. Redmi 9A could also be unveiled as a part of the upcoming budget Redmi Prime series. Redmi 9A launched globally with a 6.53-inch HD+ (1600×720) LCD display with a waterdrop notch. Redmi 9A will be powered by 2GHz MediaTek Helio G25 chipset. The company aims to deliver a powerful gaming experience equipped with HyperEngine technology and IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The chip will pair with 2GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage.

    Redmi 9A has a vertical camera module at the back with a single 13MP camera sensor. Upfront Redmi 9A has a 5MP selfie camera upfront and a triple card slot for dual SIM cards. Redmi 9A houses a 5,000mAh battery running on Android 10 with MIUI 11 on top.

    Vivo S7


    The Vivo S7 will be unveiled in China on August 3. Going by the teaser image, the camera design looks similar to the Vivo X50 Pro. It is expected to be very thin and they miss out on the 3.5 mm headphone jack. It is likely to come with an AMOLED screen with an in-display fingerprint scanner. The teaser image also hints a 44MP selfie snapper. 

    Galaxy Note 20 Series: Galaxy Note 20, Note 20 Plus, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G


    Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra color variants are out. The basic Samsung Galaxy Note 20 will come with a Full HD+ display with a regular 60Hz refresh rate, while Note 20 Plus and Note 20 Ultra 5G will feature a Quad HD+ panel offering a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ and Corning Gorilla Glass. The Galaxy Note 20 variants will come with Exynos 990 SoC in India, while the US and China models will come with Snapdragon 865 SoC and have 5G support.

    Galaxy Note 20 flagships will come with an in-display fingerprint sensor, 45W fast wired charging tech, 25W wireless charging, and 9W reverse wireless charging support.

    In terms of optics, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 will have a triple camera setup featuring 12MP wide-angle sensor, a 64MP telephoto sensor, and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor. Galaxy Note Plus will come with a 108MP primary sensor, a 12MP telephoto sensor, and a 12MP ultrawide sensor. 

    Galaxy Note 20 Ultra may have a quad-camera module featuring a 108MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide, a 13MP periscope zoom with up to 100x zoom, and laser autofocus. The devices will pack LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage with expandable microSD card and boot Android 10 OS with OneUI 2.5 custom skin on top.

    Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z 2 Flip 5G


    Samsung could soon unveil another foldable phone, and this will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 865 Plus chip in the US. The company may launch the Galaxy Z Fold smartphone, the latest version at the Unpacked event. The company is all set to host the upcoming event online on August 5. Galaxy Z Fold 2 will succeed in the controversial Galaxy Fold which has been tipped to be powered by the Snapdragon 865 Plus platform.

    The company may also unveil Galaxy Z 2 Flip 5G, another Z Flip device running on the same Snapdragon 865 Plus. It will be a clamshell foldable phone which will turn into a compact device while folded and Galaxy Z Fold 2 into a tablet when folded as the original Galaxy Fold.

    Samsung Galaxy M31s, Galaxy M51


    The successor of the vastly popular Galaxy M31, the Galaxy M31s is a mid-range phone from the house of Samsung. You get a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O screen with Full HD+ resolution. It is powered by the Snapdragon 9611 chipset. That is paired with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. There is a massive 6,000mAh battery pack with support for 25W fast charging over USB Type-C. It also supports reverse charging via Type-C to Type-C cable that's included in the box.

    On the camera front, you get a quad-camera stack with a 64MP f/1.8 primary camera, followed by a 12MP ultra-wide shooter with a 123-degree field-of-view, a 5MP depth sensor for portraits and a 5MP macro lens. Selfies are handled by a 32MP camera. The fingerprint scanner is now embedded within the power button on the right.
